National weather agency agrees two-year deal with Landmark Solutions and Nomensa with aim of extending its reach internationally
The Met Office has agreed on a two-year deal with land data specialist Landmark Solutions and digital design agency Nomensa to implement a new consumer digital strategy.
It will involve the two companies working together on a programme to optimise the national weather service’s consumer digital portfolio, with the aim of extending its reach and influence throughout the UK and beyond.
A spokesperson for the Met Office told UKAuthority: “We want them to help with our app and website, and developing the broader digital offering.
“It’s about improving the quality and availability of the digital offering so that people can forecast the weather wherever they happen to be. It’s important that a lot of the development is done in partnership, and this should involve a lot of consumer testing and feedback.”
Filling gaps
Chris Brackley, managing director of Landmark Solutions, said: “By combining Met Office subject matter expertise, Landmark’s experience in data, technology and digital commerce along with Nomensa’s humanising technologies and digital user experience ethos we will identify and fill gaps in key resource areas for the Met Office.
“By doing so, together we will create innovative and cohesive digital solutions for the benefit of the Met Office and its customers, regardless of the devices being used.
“The aim is to provide users of the Met Office web services with a highly modern, interactive service that enables them to utilise the data on any digital platform, and provide a rich, responsive service.”
Landmark has a significant presence in the public sector. It provides technical infrastructure and geospatial data management services to Capita for the Government’s FloodRe programme – which helps to provide homeowners in flood areas with affordable insurance – and manages the Energy Performance Certificate Registers.
