The Met Office has awarded CGI an eight-year contract to provide digital support through the development of new tools.

They will work together to rationalise the service’s current operational meteorological tools and systems, move them into the cloud and build in workflow management and automation.

The company has indicated it will use agile methodology in the initiatives.

Simon Brown, director of services at the Met Office, said CGI’s capabilities align with the Met Office vision for service development.

“Myself and all the team are looking forward to developing this partnership over the next eight years,” he said.

The company recently won a contract with the European Space Agency to develop a dynamic predictive routing tool for its networks, and over the past few months has picked up significant deals with the Home Office to work on police technology and the Ministry of Defence to support its geospatial intelligence programme.
