The Home Office has awarded a two-year, £8 million contract to Mastek to provide strategic application development and support capability for its Biometrics Programme.
The Indian based technology and services provider said it will develop solutions to help rationalise existing biometric services and maximise the potential for users in law enforcement and immigration control.
A spokesperson told UKAuthority these will be focused on the solution for DNA solution, the Biometric Services Gateway, an access portal and mobile solutions.
The company’s managing director, Prahlad Koti, said: “Transforming services through technology and improving the user journey is at the heart of what we do. We are committed to using our expertise to help the Home Office ensure national security and citizen safety.”
The Home Office Biometrics Programme is bringing together the two main fingerprint systems and developing a common facial matching service, and there are plans for proof of concept trials of automatic facial recognition to identify known criminals.
The new contract has been let under the Crown Commercial Service Digital Outcomes and Specialists framework.
Mastek also recently won a DevOps contract with the Home Office to deliver a platform and support services for the programme.
Earlier this year a contract was awarded to Fujitsu Services to develop a platform for matching biometrics along with associated services.
