The chief information officer of Manchester City Council is returning to the private sector.
Bob Brown (pictured) has announced on Twitter that he is to take the new role of chief solutions officer at Emis Health, the GP software provider. Before moving to the public sector he worked for insurer Aviva and Nationwide Building Society.
“After 4 years + in Manchester the time has come to move on,” Brown said. “So proud of my team and of our amazing achievements that have brought benefits to Manchester colleagues and residents. Thanks go out to our partners, you have been brilliant.”
Under Brown Manchester City Council has been active in the Manchester Local Care Organisation initiative, which is exploring technology solutions in the integration of health and social care.
The council has also made efforts to develop itself as a smart city, including through the CityVerve smart places demonstrator programme run with Cisco which focused on the city centre and the university corridor to the south. It was one of eight European cities which took part in Synchronicity, a European Commission-led internet of things project.
