HM Land Registry has announced that its Local Land Charges Register has reached a milestone with the 50th local authority to migrate its LLC data.

Knowsley Council has become the latest to join the register, which provides a central system for LLC searches.

It now holds over 2.5 million charges with nearly 366,000 automated searches having been conducted.

The news is a sign of the increasing momentum of sign-ups to the register. Launched in mid-2018 it attracted just a handful of councils over its first two years, prompting Land Registry to develop a group of support packages which it announced in July 2020.

The agency said that 38 of the 50 migrations have taken place since April 2021, and predicted by 2023 a third of local authorities in England will have joined the service, rising to two thirds the following year.

Accelerating delivery

LLC programme director Mark Kelso said: “This is the 50th local authority to join the service and demonstrates how we are accelerating our delivery pace. This is a credit to the team at Knowsley and the investment in our delivery teams and partners.

“We continue to collaborate with local authorities across England and Wales to ensure property buyers can obtain the information they need quickly, making the conveyancing process simpler and faster for everyone. As the register continues to grow, more and more people will benefit from this modern service.”
