A new feature has been added to a journey planning app offered by Leicester City Council to provide pedestrians with well lit and accessible paths through the city.

Developer Skedgo has added the lit routing feature to the Choose How You Move app, saying it will will help to make travel more inclusive for Leicester’s residents.

During the daytime the app guides users along the quickest, healthiest and most convenient routes, but at nighttime the new features recalibrates the recommended pathways to well lit routes that are also covered by CCTV.

Skedgo said the feature addresses the concerns for greater confidence and visibility at night.

Its CEO, John Nuutinen, said: "Lit routing is more than just a feature; it's our commitment to ensuring more accessible journeys for everyone in Leicester. "We believe in leveraging technology to break down barriers to mobility, and with Lit Routing, we're shining a light on the path to inclusivity."
