Anxieties over cyber security are as strong as ever in the public sector, with a widespread recognition that it has become a target for attacks from criminal gangs and state backed sources.
In recent months there has been a series of incidents, affecting local authorities including three in Manchester, others in Kent and Leicester City Council, NHS organisations in south-east London and Scotland, and most recently Transport for London.
Government is taking steps to counter the threat, with initiatives including NHS England’s adoption of the Cyber Assessment Framework, a plan for a Scottish Cyber Coordination Centre and a stream of new services from the National Cyber Security Centre. But the pressure remains intense, and public sector bodies need to stay abreast of the threats and the latest thinking on how to strengthen their defences.
It is against this background that UKAuthority is staging its next Resilience and Cyber4Good conference, taking place online next week.
The event will consist of three 90-minute sessions on the mornings of 18, 19 and 20 September, looking into some of the key issues of cyber security, threats to the public sector and the steps that organisations can take to make themselves more resilient.
Speakers
Among the speakers will be a representative from the National Cyber Security Centre, David Mudd, global head for digital trust assurance at the British Standards Institution (BSI), and a representative from Cisco, one of the leading solutions providers in the field.
Others will include Geoff Connell, chair of the national Cyber Technical Advisory Group (CTAG), Heather Toomey, principal cyber specialist at the Information Commissioner’s Office, and Jamie Cross, programme manager for sector-led consultancy at the Local Government Association.
There will also be speakers from local and central government and the National Police Chiefs’ Council, amounting to a wide pool of expertise and promising a range of valuable insights.
The event provides a great opportunity to learn of the latest developments and thinking in public sector cyber security, and log-in is free for public sector officials. You can learn more and register for the event from the link below.
