HM Land Registry is making changes in its Digital Registration Service (DRS) and Business Gateway to prevent the submission of applications that contain simple errors.

It said it will work on the changes with third party software integrators and is planning to deliver the improvements by autumn of this year.

Many of these checks involved are already being performed in the DRS on the Land Registry portal and will soon be available for all Business Gateway enabled software.

Business Gateway enables customer organisations of Land Registry to integrate their data directly with its systems.

The agency said that by 2028 this could save customers an estimated 300,000 hours a year in administration and make it possible to resolve requisitions more quickly.

Milestone in customer service

Its chief transformation and technology officer, Mark Gray, said: “This is another key milestone in improving our customer service and our processing times. By preventing errors up front, automating routine tasks and removing unnecessary correspondence, we will save time for our customers and our caseworkers alike.

He added that Land Registry is automating more of its work, and that it will introduce further checks on the data contained in transfer and charge deeds late next year.
