Essex Police to share in procurement of integrated software for mobile devices
Kent Police are to obtain use of a mobile app for access to a range of programmes and databases as part of an infrastructure deal between the county’s police and crime commissioner and HCL Technologies.
The software will also be available to Essex Police under a longstanding arrangement for shared procurement, which has previously taken in back office, legal and transport services.
It is part of a wider mobile police working programme aimed at setting up a single infrastructure for mobile technology across the two forces.
The contract for an integrated software solution for mobile devices will operate as a single supplier framework, initially for two years with the ability to extend up to a further two, and resulting call-off contracts to run for between four and six years.
A spokesman for the Office of the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner said: “The mobile first software, procured from HCL Technologies UK after an open tendering process as part of the force’s business transformation programme, enables Kent Police officers to access numerous policing programmes and databases from a single stand-alone app.
“For example, they can now access the Police National Computer remotely without having to call the force control room. This makes Kent Police officers more efficient and enables them to spend more time in local communities.
“Furthermore, the longstanding collaborated procurement process Kent Police shares with Essex Police has saved the force a significant sum in line with the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner’s commitment to ensuring taxpayers’ money is spent wisely.”
