The innovation hub of Strategic Command in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been commissioned to clean up the data fed from third party Covid-19 apps to the NHSX datastore.
jHub is beginning to receive and review data from the tracker apps to ensure that anything that could inadvertently identify users is removed, and only symptom and demographic data is passed on. In addition, it will check for any security issues and aim to erase any incorrect of duplicate data.
It will then share the data with NHSX, under data protection controls, as part of Project OASIS to help it understand where the coronavirus is spreading and how quickly.
The two organisations are only working with apps that have been assessed to the NHS Digital Health Technology Standard or against the Digital Assessment Questionnaire. The app providers in the early stages have been Agitate Ink C-19, Collected Cognition, Corona-help.co.uk, Evergreen, LetsBeatCovid.net, TrackTogether and YourMD.
Natasha Gedge, chief operating officer at jHub, said: “At jHub, we are always working to deliver for UK Defence and we are proud to be able to take our approach, and apply it in support of the NHS and the people of the UK.”
