A toolkit has been released under Scotland’s Infralink programme to help identify sites on public buildings for masts and antennae to support the national roll out of 4G and 5G networks.
Scottish Futures Trust, the body created by the Scottish Government as a centre of infrastructure expertise, said the toolkit will involve national pricing guidance for telecoms and is expected to lead to a significantly faster deployment of the technology.
It will apply to potential sites on land, buildings and streets.
The move is accompanied by plans for the launch of a ‘connectivity marketplace’ later this year to make it easier for the public sector and other land and property owners to reach commercial agreements in support of the roll out.
Huge opportunity
Sarah Eynon, Infralink programme lead at Scottish Futures Trust, said: "The Infralink programme provides the ideal opportunity for forward thinking local authorities and public sector organisations to reap the huge benefits from improved connectivity without overburdening their current resources.
"It offers a win-win situation for both the public sector and operators, but Scottish citizens and businesses will reap the ultimate rewards.”
The programme is funded by the Scotland 5G Centre, which was set up in 2019 as the national centre for accelerating the deployment and adoption of 5G.
