Scotland’s Improvement Service has developed a mobile app for its parentsportal.scot service.
Working through mygovscot myaccount, the portal gives parents access to school services and information about their child’s education online, with functions such as the ability to pay for school meals, check attendance, read report cards, reply to permission slips and update their own data.
The Improvement Service said the new app will make this easier, with a notification function to keep parents up-to-date on information their children’s schools have sent out and new features to be added in the future.
Easier communication
Andrew Campbell, head of digital public services at the Improvement Service, said: “The new parentsportal.scot app makes communication between parents and schools easier than ever before.
“It puts a whole range of information and services at parents’ fingertips, from making school payments to reporting absence. And because it’s powered by mygovscot myaccount, parents use a single, secure sign-in to access information about all their children.”
The portal – launched in 2018 – and app provide information on absences, attendance, the school notice board, report cards, an annual data check, class timetables, permission slips and young person’ free bus travel.
The app is available through the App Store and Google Play.
