The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has outlined plans for new guidance on anonymisation and pseudonymisation as elements of safe data sharing.
Its head of technology policy, Ali Shah, has set out the priorities in a blogpost, saying it will include practical guidance and advice on how to assess the appropriate controls.
He pointed to a number of key topics to be explored, including: anonymisation and the legal framework; the spectrum of identifiability; accountability and governance requirements; anonymisation and research; and guidance on privacy enhancing technologies.
Shah said the ICO will look into the topics iteratively, publishing each chapter and calling for views before the main public consultation. It is open to being contacted at anonymisation@ico.org.uk.
