The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has called for feedback on the first draft chapter of its guidance on anonymisation, pseudonymisation and privacy enhancing technologies.
It said it is taking the step to refine the final guidance, on which it plans to consult towards the end of the year.
The guidance covers issues such as whether anonymisation is always necessary and possible, its benefits, the difference between it and pseudonymisation, and de-identified personal data.
The ICO said it will publish other draft chapters through the summer and autumn, taking in issues such as identifiability, pseudonymisation techniques, accountability and governance requirements, and the role of privacy enhancing technologies in safe data sharing.
“Input at this early stage can make a significant difference as we will use the responses we receive to inform our work in developing the guidance,” it said.
It is taking the feedback through anonymisation@ico.org.uk.
