The Home Office is making plans to move away from using the Hendon Data Centre to support UK police forces.

It has published a prior information notice of a search for a programme delivery, indicating that it is intending to confirm an exit date, likely to be around March 2027, later this year.

The Hendon Data Centre is owned and operated by the Home Office, located alongside the Metropolitan Police’s main training facility and hosts the Police National Computer.

The department has indicated that systems and services will be migrated to other data centres, cloud systems or other destinations, with the delivery partner being responsible for security, assurance and accreditation.

The work is expected to take around three years with an estimated value of £8-10 million.

The notice states: “The exit will need to ensure the new data centre is prepared and set up to receive migrated services, services are migrated out of HDC, infrastructure is physically decommissioned, staff based at the data centre are moved to alternative offices in line with policy, the data centre is handed back to Home Office property services, and any critical interim sustainment works in HDC are managed and delivered prior to exit.”
