The Home Office and National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NCTSO) have announced plans for an online platform to support counter-terrorism planning by businesses.
It will be developed as part of a £10 million project funded by terrorism reinsurer Pool Re and led by Counter Terrorism Policing network and the Joint Security and Resilience Centre in the Home Office.
The aim is to provide an interactive source of information and guidance, aimed primarily at smaller businesses but which can be utilised by other organisations.
Among its capabilities will be to connect users to experts, provide accelerated online training and send direct messages in the event of an attack. There is also likely to be an information sharing element.
The Home Office said it is currently in consultation with partners and will begin the technical development of the platform later this year, at which time it should have a firm idea of when it should be ready to go live.
First of its kind
Security Minister Ben Wallace said: “This project is one of the first of its kind - a collaboration between the police, the insurance sector, and the government that will help to keep the country safe and secure.
“If we are to properly respond to the terrorist threat, we need to ensure everyone plays their part. That is why partnerships like this one are so vital and I thank Pool Re for their leadership.”
