HM Revenue and Customs has confirmed that its chief digital and information officer Jacky Wright is to return to Microsoft in October.
She will be coming to the end of a two-year loan arrangement and will resume her position with the software company as its US chief digital officer.
Her last day in the position will be 11 October, with the succession plan to be announced before then.
During her time at HMRC, Wright has led a transformation of CDIO Group and set up a cloud migration, network and sourcing strategy. The department said her launch of a data strategy and governance model has positioned it to effectively develop a core capability for the future.
Wright said: “I am so proud of all that we have achieved in my two years with HMRC. The digital transformation we have introduced and the new ways of working we have championed have built a solid foundation on which to continue, for both our colleagues and the customers we serve.”
Her appointment in 2017 raised some eyebrows given its fixed term and her role within Microsoft, but HMRC has insisted she has never played any role in any commercial decisions involving the company.
