HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has signed Capgemini on a two-year deal valued at £50 million as part of its Securing Our Technical Future programme.

The technology and business consultancy will provide services for projects within the five-year programme, launched in 2019, with the contract having begun last month.

Securing Our Technical Future involves updating HMRC’s IT estate by migrating from existing data centres to cloud based hosting or Crown Hosting. It also takes in a review and remediation of legacy vulnerabilities.

At the time of the launch the estate comprised more than 600 services, which the department said lacked agility and was costly to run.

It has been working on more cost-effective arrangements with suppliers and the development of a more resilient and flexible infrastructure.

This is the latest is a series of major deals between HMRC and Capgemini. In recent months they have agreed on contracts for IT strategy and architecture, core platform support and maintenance services, and support of the Enterprise Tax Management Platform.
