The Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee (HAUC(UK)) has added new functions to its app that provides access to its Red Book code of practice for safely carrying out signing, lighting and guarding of street works and road works.
It launched the app, which holds an interactive check list and makes the 108-page Red Book searchable, last year for anyone responsible for making sure that all street and road works are safe. It has since attracted over 13,000 users.
HAUC(UK) has now added functions including location intelligence to identify the alerts and documentation that is most relevant to the location of works. For example, this means that if a user is working in Wales the alerts and documentation will be prioritised where it is applicable to Wales.
Another change is the provision of ‘setting up site’ tool for users to identify their sites with filters to support safety.
Other additions are links to websites with relevant guidance and a feedback tool.
The development has been supported by GeoPlace and the Transport for London Lane Rental Fund.
It indicated that it plans further developments in the app.
HAUC(UK) brings highway authorities, utilities and government together with the aim of working safely and smartly to reduce the impact of street and road works on members of the public throughout the UK.
