Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) has signed PA Consulting Services to support its planned development of the Health Data Research Innovation Gateway.

They have agreed on a two-year deal, valued in the contract notice at £5 million, for the design, delivery and operation of a web application for researchers and innovators to find and analyse relevant data held in trusted research environments.

The underlying aim is to help users to better understand diseases and discover new ways to prevent, treat and cure them.

It will not store or hold health data, which will remain in the hands of data custodians of the source organisations, but will hold the business and technical metadata association with the datasets.

A minimum viable product has been developed for selected functions, and the project will be delivered by PA Consulting with HDR UK – the national institute for health data science – the UK Health Data Research Alliance and a range of other stakeholders.

HDR UK is also leading a Digital Innovation Hub Programme co-funded by the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

In addition, last week it announced that it had won a grant from the Covid-19 Therapeutics Accelerator – a philanthropic initiative to support research and development on the coronavirus – to set up an international data research alliance and data analysis workbench to obtain insights and support the development of treatments.
