The Data Science Hub in HM Treasury has won the department’s Information Systems Innovation Award for its Hawkeye 2 data service.
The award was presented yesterday, by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones to HMT's Sacha Banks, with Hawkeye 2 described as an innovative solution that has simplified data access, importation and visualisation for the Treasury’s data analysts, saving them time and enhancing the accuracy of their economic reporting.
Sacha Banks, a member of the Data Science Hub team, told UKAuthority that it was developed as a centralised data system for the Treasury, and built on the Microsoft Fabric cloud analytics platform with integrations into Power BI, which gives analysts a low code/no code capability for their economic reporting.
It draws in data from all of the Treasury’s internal sources and a number of external partners, including the Office for National Statistics, the World Bank and Bloomberg.
Banks said the roll out of the service began in the spring of this year, it is now used widely within the Treasury and there has been interest from other central government organisations.
He added that the Data Science Hub is now looking at possible AI integrations with Hawkeye 2. These could include using technologies such as large language models to pull in some data that may currently not be included within the platform.
