Harrow Council has signed Version 1 to support its ICT estate in a two-year deal to begin from November.

The solutions provider will take on hosting, application maintenance and support for the council, covering 310 managed applications, of which approximately 20 are key line of business.

The new deal replaces a five-year contract with Sopra Steria set to expire at the end of October.

Harrow has a transformation agenda that involves making more services available online and reducing its costs through the use of technology.

Ben Goward, its director of ICT, said: “At a time of economic uncertainty, it is more important than ever that we take the opportunities that digital, data and technology provide to improve our efficiency and effectiveness as a council.

“The applications that Version 1 will be supporting through this contract underpin our frontline service delivery to over 240,000 residents. We look forward to working with Version 1 to ensure critical council services are always available when needed and transformed as part of our ongoing digital transformation journey.”

In an interview for Version 1’s website, he said the first priority is to rearchitect the core of the council’s network with a move from on-premise to public cloud applications, pointing to Microsoft Azure as a likely platform.
