Hammersmith and Fulham Council has begun to install a network of multi-sensor CCTV cameras across the borough.
As part of a £5 million, four-year project with internet of things (IoT) provider North, the council has deployed the cameras at key locations to support public safety and collect data on traffic movements, air quality and the use of public spaces.
The programme is replacing the existing analogue CCTV system, which is nearing the end of its life.
The first installations have taken place in the White City Estate and Shepherds Bush Green districts, with new others to follow in the streets around the borough’s three professional football club stadiums – Chelsea, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.
360-view
North said the cameras can monitor a full 360-view of an area with clear images and provide data on the environment and how people are moving around the borough.
Hammersmith and Fulham’s cabinet member for social inclusion and safety, Cllr Rebecca Harvey, said: “Hammersmith and Fulham is determined to deliver London’s most efficient, effective and forward thinking CCTV system. It’s part of the proactive steps we’re taking to protect women and girls, reduce crime and make our streets safer for our residents, businesses and visitors.”
