Hackney Council has begun work on developing an online reporting and tracking tool to support its new builds team and property managers.
It is aiming to build a ‘single source of truth’ for data across its service to support its plan to build 3,000 new properties over the next 10 years.
This will replace the current dependence on spreadsheets and emails to record and report any defects in new builds.
The council has already run a discovery process and developed a prototype with digital consultancy dxw, and has now published a procurement notice for support in building a minimum viable product for testing and refining.
It stated a number of priorities including that the new build team has better visibility of what contractors are doing and when repairs have been completed, and that there is an overview of defect types for understanding trends and patterns of products and components used in the construction of new buildings.
In addition, it wants residents to have the ability to report and see progress of defects online.
