The UK Government has launched a consultation on e-invoicing, indicating that it wants to increase adoption of the process in businesses and the public sector.
HM Revenue and Customs and the Department for Business and Trade are running the process, which is exploring different models of e-invoicing, whether to take a mandated or voluntary approach to their use, the scope of any possible mandate and whether it should be complemented by real time digital reporting.
They said they wanted to hear the opinions of people in public and third sector organisations as well as in businesses.
The announcement included the example of an NHS trust being able to process e-invoices with in 24 hours compared with 10 days under paper invoicing. The invoices were paid almost twice as quickly with supplier queries reduced by an average of 15%.
The consultation will run until 7 May.
