Minister for Implementation Oliver Dowden has announced five new challenges for ideas from the govtech sector.
It is the third round of competitions under the GovTech Catalyst programme, which is providing a £20 million fund to support private sector innovators in looking for digital solutions to public sector problems.
Dowden outlined the challenges, the first competition for which will begin on 4 March, as:
-
How will we manage autonomous vehicles in local traffic management control systems? (The challenge originated at Oxfordshire County Council.)
-
How might we proactively monitor the condition of social housing using sensors? (Leeds City Council.)
-
How might we better use and understand Scottish land protected for nature and conservation? (Scottish National Heritage.)
-
How might we better predict and sequence adult social care to deliver a seamless service? (Torfaen County Council.)
-
How might we accelerate the building of new housing using better geospatial intelligence? (Waltham Forest Council.)
The ideas have been submitted by public sector organisations with a commitment that they will buy the relevant solution if it is developed to the full.
Projects will receive up to £50,000 for the development of a prototype, following which two will be selected to receive up to £500,000 for full development.
Competitions from the earlier rounds of challenges are still ongoing.
