The Cabinet Office and Office of National Statistics have launched the new round of the Civil Service Data Challenge.
The competition, run with Global Government Forum and IT services business NTT Data UK, is for civil servants to put forward ideas on how government can improve its use of data.
The winner will receive £50,000 worth of technical support and the backing of senior leaders.
Winners of the first two rounds were a plan to train AI systems to identify peatlands drainage channels, and a data dashboard to help identify and tackle modern slavery.
Sue Bateman, the chief data officer at the Central Digital and Data Office, and one of the judges of the challenge, highlighted that it started "because we know there is a combination of lots of knotty data issues, and many talented people across the civil service, who need a platform to launch their ideas".
The entry process is open until 1 November.
