Contract with Commsworld within transformation programme will also provide for new IP telephony and contact centre
Business telecoms provider Commsworld has been signed up to provide wide area network (WAN) for Glasgow’s public sector buildings along with an IP telephone solution and contact centre.
The company has landed a £30 million contract within the transformation deal between Glasgow City Council and business consulting services firm CGI, which was confirmed in November.
Edinburgh based Commsworld said the WAN will provide fibre connectivity for the city’s schools, libraries and other council buildings, providing bandwidth speeds expected to be 100 times the UK average.
It will also roll out an IP telephony solution for more than 16,000 council users and a 180-seat contact centre.
The council’s digital champion, Councillor Angus Millar, commented: “Glasgow’s rapid development as a digital, connected city gives us the chance to completely rethink how we use technology to improve lives and communities. From world class digital learning in our schools, to better connected businesses, access to top quality infrastructure will transform Glasgow into one of the best-connected cities anywhere in Europe.
