The Greater London Authority (GLA) is planning to develop a city data sharing platform.
It is aiming to begin a discovery project during March, looking at possible technology solutions and the skills and resources needed to develop the platform.
This comes a year after it received a report from the Open Data Institute (ODI) calling for a number of changes to improve the London Datastore’s capabilities. This prompted Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to say it could be developed for data sharing to promote innovation in the capital.
The Datastore was set up in 2010 as an open data portal and in 2018 was equipped with a data sharing capability. The new project is aimed at providing a platform that will meet the needs more effectively.
According to a market notice for support, has now outgrown its original scope and is used to privately share non-open datasets. It points to two groups of users: those who need to gain access to data for purposes including research and projects to improve public services; and publishers who need to share data either publicly or privately.
