The Greater London Authority (GLA) has got behind the reboot of the Pipeline tool for digital projects set up by the practitioner group Local Gov Digital.
It has added details of a number of digital products, including its customer service chatbot, correspondence replace system and GLA-Ops, an online system for organisations to submit bids for funding.
The move follows Hackney Council’s recent reactivation of the Pipeline by posting details of a number of projects. The tool had been set up by Local Gov Digital in 2014, but had not been developed beyond the alpha phase until recently.
The GLA’s decision could provide further momentum for the use of the Pipeline, and promote the cause of sharing digital solutions in local government.
In a City Hall blogpost, the GLA says: “Having this data available makes collaboration easier. If two or more authorities are working on similar projects, they could instead work together to build a platform that works for everyone.
“It also means that before building or buying a new product an authority can see if a cloud based or open source tool can be re-used for free. A great example of this is the GLA-Ops service mentioned above, which releases its code as open source so that any local council can re-use it to save time and money.”
