GeoPlace has added a series of new features to its FindMyStreet web service.

The joint venture between the Local Government Association and Ordnance Survey said the changes are aimed at making the service more useful and easier to use.

They include a function to share a unique street reference number (USRN) – managed nationally by GeoPlace as a unique identifier for a street – with someone else and to cross-reference Type 3 USRNs within elementary street units.

Other changes include: a single click on the list of streets will lead directly to the map, which now has more details; making the search tool more intuitive; making it possible to filter a list of streets by town; improvements in the dual language map display, specifically in how it shows the Welsh language; signposting of street data products within the FAQs.

GeoPlace said that FindMyStreet, which was launched in 2019 and uses the National Street Gazetteeer, can reduce the burden on local authorities that have to handle queries on who is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of streets in England and Wales.
