The Government Digital Service (GDS) is building a new interface for civil servants to publish content on the GOV.UK web platform.
It has developed a beta version with a number of partners in central government and say it is steadily adding new features as part of an iterative development.
According to a new blogpost, it is following the GOV.UK Design System, using the GOV.UK Prototype Kit and aiming to make it easier for users to create and manage content.
“We want to provide publishers with the most useful information right in the editing interface where they can act upon it,” the blog says. “We aim to help government react to problem content, and to continuously improve important content.”
The team is releasing a series of updates to the system and, while the blog does not give a date for the final version to go into use, it says they are looking to expand the beta and involve more users.
It is also working on an interface to give publishers better access to the performance and quality data it brings together.
The current publishing apps for GOV.UK date from its inception in 2012 and have not changed much since, although some new features have been added. GDS has said that feedback from users indicated that they wanted the tools to do more and be easier to use.
