New version set for summer release as part of regular reiteration
The Government Digital Service (GDS) has indicated that it is working on a new update for the Technology Code of Practice, less than a year after the previous refresh.
A blogpost from the organisation says it began the work late last year, making the point that the code is meant to be subject to continual iterations based on feedback from other organisations.
While the new version is yet to emerge, GDS says that initial user research has pointed to a need for clearer information on what is classed as ‘standard’, what is meant by best practice advice and more specific examples on implementation.
It also says the guidance will aim to support teams in dealing with the challenges around legacy systems when buying and building new technology.
The new version of the code, which needs approval from the Technology Leaders’ Network, is expected to be published during the summer.
The main significance of the code is that departments and agencies have to comply to win GDS approval of any projects valued at £100,000 upwards. The version published in August of last year included significant additions to the 2013 version around accessibility, sharing and re-use, and commercial behaviours.
