The Government Digital Service has taken on two capability delivery partners for the development of the Government Data Exchange (GDX).
It has awarded contracts, both to run for two years and valued at up to £5 million each, to TPXImpact and dxw (The Dextrous Web).
It is developing the GDX as a set of tools and infrastructure for sharing data between government departments and services, in line with mission five of its strategy for 2021-24, which includes work on an ‘events brokerage service’ for departments to share information about users. It also includes the creation of a cross-government reference architecture and standards for data registers.
Both contract notices state: “Work includes developing appropriate standards, governance and policy support frameworks. as well as removing specific blockers that are identified through this work.
“This will be supported by small teams working in departments, ensuring data is standardised and of good quality and infrastructure changes are made so that the department can effectively use the central infrastructure and tools.”
Both countries already have a significant presence in the development of digital services for central government. TPXImpact recently won a contract with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to work on the Planning Data Platform, and dxw has contributed to projects including a Ministry of Justice service to support offenders on probation and the Department for Education’s in-house procurement service.
