The Government Digital Service (GDS) has agreed on a £21.6 million deal with MMGRP to provide the SMS function on the GOV.UK Notify service.

The contract award covers the period from July of this year to the end of March next year, and follows another deal with the company last December under which it provided service until the end of last March at a value of £17.5 million.

A Government spokesperson said the contracts are short term because it can be difficult to predict the demand for SMS services and shorter deals provide for greater flexibility and better value for money.

“While we have used MMGRP in the past, all contract awards follow procurement compliance regulations including assessing other frameworks or routes to market,” he added.

Notify is a multi-channel digital communications platform that the public sector can use to send emails, text messages and letters to service users on steps such as status updates, requests for action, receipts of application and reminders. It has proved one of the more successful GDS initiatives since its launch in July 2018, now being used by 1,100 organisations for 4,800 services.

The website of MMGRP, otherwise known as Mobile Marketing Group (MMG), describes it as a specialist in business to consumer and secure enterprise messaging with government clients around the world.
