Forescout launches new PSN compliance package

A programme to help local authorities and government departments to meet the requirements of the Public Service Network (PSN), the secure network enabling local and central government organisations to communicate electronically has been launched today.

The PSN Compliance Package programme, from US network security company ForeScout,
will allow local and central government organisations to see demonstrations and access promotional pricing for CounterACT, ForeScout's software platform designed to ensure compliance with PSN security requirements.

CounterACT allows government organisations of all sizes to monitor network security by providing visibility and control over what is happening on a network - including which devices, operating systems, applications and users are in use.

Under the PSN rules, organisations must demonstrate that unmanaged devices cannot gain access to a PSN-connected system.

If CounterACT detects an unmanaged device, the platform automatically reduces its access to the network via a virtual firewall so that organisations remain compliant with PSN's Code of Connection (CoCo), the PSN security standards.

Two UK councils already use the CounterACT platform.

Peter Batchelor, ForeScout's UK Regional Manager for Public Sector, said: "Our special government package allows any council or government organisation, regardless of size, to implement an integrated solution that supports PSN mandates in a timely and cost-effective way".
