HM Land Registry has said that five local authorities will join its Local Land Charges (LLC) Register over the next few weeks.
In the course of April and May Stockton-on-Tees, Spelthorne, Sevenoaks, Stratford-on-Avon and Welwyn Hatfield are scheduled to transfer their land search services to the central registry.
The announcement comes months after Land Registry said it was aiming to migrate councils in clusters to using the register, with an aim of 60 over 2021-22.
This follows almost three years of slow progress in bringing councils onto the register, with just 12 previously signed up since the launch in mid-2018.
Last year it developed support packages and made changes to its data analysis dashboard and pre-migration service assessment in an effort to bring more councils onboard.
Accelerating pace
Karina Singh, director of transformation at Land Registry, said: “We are working closely with local authorities to accelerate the pace of data transfer to the national register.
“With their support ministers’ ambition to migrate all local authorities in England and Wales onto the national register by 2025 will become a reality. We want to make the conveyancing process simpler and faster for everyone, to reduce the risk of transactions failing due to delays. LLC data can also help to speed up planning and investment decisions.”
