The East Coast and Hertfordshire Control Room Consortium has renewed its contract with Capita to manage its shared wide area network.
Under a three-year, £700,000 deal the company will manage the WAN for Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Humberside and Norfolk fire and rescue services.
As part of the deal, Capita will provide an upgrade to the consortium’s local area network and routers that enable network connections within each site. The service also includes digital perimeter security including firewalls to protect and segregate the LAN at each control room and the WAN that connects them.
It said the shared infrastructure – which connects the services’ headquarters, control rooms and shared data centres – provides for greater operational efficiency and is built to Public Sector Network compliance standards, enabling the fire services to work with the respective local authorities.
Matt Canterford, head of digital services at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “We have an important responsibility to provide the best services we can to our communities. Capita’s network technology provides the resilient platform we need to ensure that our operations across the consortium are running efficiently.”
In addition to network services, Capita already provides control room software solutions to East Coast and Hertfordshire Control Room Consortium.
