Fife Council has signed a £3.6 million contract with MLL Telecom for the provision of a wide area network.
The authority has indicated that, while the primary aim is to maintain service provision for its 500 plus sites – with bandwidth of up to 1Gbps – it is also looking for structural and technical developments to improve its service delivery capability.
It has pointed to the possibilities in distributed internet access and dark fibre for access links, by which other organisations could pick up unused capacity.
The procurement notice indicates that the contract will kick in at the beginning of September and run for five years, with options to extend up to another five. It will replace an arrangement with Updata/Capita.
The deal follows recent contract wins for MLL Telecom with South Ayrshire Council and Norfolk Council.
