The new Evidence Presentation System (EPS) is set to begin a nationwide roll out in crown and magistrate’s courts from Monday.
HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) said the EPS will replace the existing Clickshare device used in courtrooms to present multi-media evidence, for which technical support will end in April.
This follows successful tests of EPS, which can be provided through a cable or Wi-Fi, at Guildford Crown Court in November 2020.
A wired and wireless solution will be introduced in crown courts by the end of April, with Wi-Fi only in magistrates’ courts, due to more common physical limitations. The Wi-Fi system is scheduled to be in place by the end of July.
They have been approved for wider introduction as a solution by the senior presiding judge, with the Bar Council also expressing support.
No disruption expected
HMCTS said it does not anticipate any disruption to court business during the transition and any installation work will be undertaken out of hours. It will continue to support the use of Apple devices with Clickshare until the EPS roll out is complete.
User guides will be made available and the Clickshare web pages will be replaced with the new EPS guidance during the roll out.
