The European Commission has awarded a contract to a consortium led by Capgemini Invent to get behind efforts to gather information on cyber threats around the continent.
It has tasked the transformation consultancy, part of the Capgemini Group, with supporting the development of and coordination between sectoral information sharing and analysis centres (ISACs).
These are non-profit organisations that provide a central resource for gathering information on cyber threats, often directed at critical infrastructure. They also provide a mechanism for public and private sector bodies to share information on root causes, incidents and threats.
Among the elements of the contract are the launch of a cooperation platform, facilitating common standards and procedures, and helping to create new ISACs in critical sectors.
Strength and commitment
Roeland de Koning, principal consultant public security at Capgemini Invent and project coordinator, said: “We have a strong consortium of organisations and experts, all well known authorities in the field of ISACs.
“To support our approach they have clearly stated their commitment through a letter of intent. Most notable is the strong involvement of experts from the Dutch NCSC, European FI-ISA and EE-ISAC, the only specialists who can speak from experience and share lessons learned for future European ISACs.”
ISACs already exist for energy, finance, railways and aviation, and Capgemini Invent pointed to the potential for new ones in areas including healthcare, maritime and water.
Other partners in the consortium are Intrasoft, DGN CERT, Spark Legal Network and TNA, and they are supported by the Dutch National Cyber Security Centre.
