The European Commission has launched a digital tool to assess the semantic interoperability of a public service.
Named SIMAPS (Semantic Interoperability Maturity Assessment for Public Services), it is directed at establishing whether the relevant digital systems are able to exchange data with shared and unambiguous meaning.
The tool has been made available in beta format by the ISA2 interoperability group in the European Commission and is based on the IMAPS survey for the interoperability assessment of digital public services.
SIMAPS includes a set of questions to assess conformance with the European Interoperability Framework and the European Interoperability Reference Architecture, and a series of insights, tailored recommendations and best practices.
After completing the survey, users will receive a report with semantic interoperability score and recommendations on how a service could be improved.
The target groups are owners of digital public services and those involved in their implementation such as enterprise architects and contractors.
ISA2 said the European Commission is also considering the possibilities of similar tools for legal, organisational and technical interoperability.
