A partnership involving Essex County Council launched an online campaign to support people with their physical and mental wellbeing during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Active Partnership for Essex has set up Keep Essex Active, working with fitness instructors on an ongoing schedule of free daily workouts stream on a dedicated YouTube channel.

It said that since the service was launched on 27 April it has gained almost 300 subscribers with around 100 taking part in each session.

The campaign was piloted with more than 50 county council employees before its public launch. It includes activities such as yoga, seated aerobics, pilates and tai chi.

Mike Gogarty, the council’s director of wellbeing, public health and communities, said: “‘Essex County Council colleagues gave positive feedback to help shape the dedicated Keep Essex Active YouTube channel.

“Within a very short space of time the regular schedule of live, guided activity sessions are supporting people in Essex to stay active and well during this difficult time.”

Active Essex has also set up a Keep Essex Active web page.
