Essex County Council is planning to deploy a local version of the Digital Inclusion Triage Tool.
It has announced that it plans to launch a pilot involving community support services in June, using the tool to help residents identity their digital challenges and needs.
They will then receive a list of recommended local support services for accessing online services, using digital devices and building digital skills. Users will be able to revisit their recommendations and track their progress.
The council has invited local organisations to take part in the pilot.
Cllr Louise McKinaly, deputy leader of Essex County Council, said: “This innovative tool, accessible without an internet connection or existing digital skills, is part of our drive to tackle the causes of digital exclusion in Essex and can be tailored to individual needs.”
The Digital Inclusion Triage Tool has been developed with the backing of the Local Government Association and is currently used by a handful of local authorities including Worcestershire County Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
It has been designed to help councils deliver place based campaigns and can be used to create new datasets for providing relevant services.
