The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has committed to a £250 million spend on licences for Microsoft products over the next five years.

It has agreed on a contract with IT reseller Softcat, marking an expansion from an earlier deal with the company.

The contract award notice states that it provides “a licensing subscription service for Microsoft (or equivalent) products and incorporates a number of key product suites utilised by DWP, which includes O365, Windows and Server products (procurement with DWP building and supporting its Windows and server environment) and software and telephony services”.

Among the terms are to add value to and optimise the DWP’s licence estate. This involves supporting its software asset management, reporting on utilisation and making recommendations on optimisation, and carrying out periodic reviews on ways of working.
