The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has signed Capgemini to provide agile digital services in support of Health Transformation Programme (HTP).

They have agreed on a contract set to run for four years and valued at between £42 million and £52 million.

The programme, which began in 2019, is focused on the digital interactions for people claiming support for disabilities and health conditions. DWP said the new deal with Capgemini will be focused on processes for personal independence payments (PIPs) and the Health Assessment Service.

An evaluation strategy for the programme has been published by DWP and the Government social research profession, emphasising that it is a large, complex programme that includes a significant digital element.

Among its aims are to transform in-house data and the IT infrastructure, to ensure digital tools help make the relevant service more flexible to customer and service needs, and to look at the claims processing times through digital forms.

Earlier this month DWP minister Tom Pursglove told Parliament the department is testing a new service for online applications for PIPs as part of the programme, following the introduction of a digital version of the health questionnaire.

The National Audit Office currently carrying out an assessment of the HTP with plans to publish a report during the summer.
