New search engine removes need to use Government Gateway for authentication

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has signed up Adzuna to use its search engine in the Universal Jobmatch service.

The company will provide the service, which connects millions of jobseekers with thousands of employers, from the beginning of the second quarter of the year.

A spokesperson for the company said that, compared with the existing service, it will provide easier registration and log-in without the need to use the Government Gateway authentication service.

It has also improved the search function and usability, which should increase the number of applications going through the platform, and includes mechanisms to reduce the number of duplicate and fraudulent ads.

Minister for Employment Alok Sharma said: "I want those looking for work around the country to have the very best opportunity to find work that suits their needs. Our free Universal Jobmatch service offers one of the largest job search functions out there – and with a near record number of vacancies, there are plenty to choose from.

“By joining forces with Adzuna we’ll make the platform even better for both jobseekers and employers.”

The Adzuna search engine, which searches thousands of websites for vacancies, is currently used by more than 10 million visitors per month. Its data also contributes to the Number 10 Dashboard, used by senior officials to keep track of economic growth.

The company is among those that recently participated in GovStart, a six-month programme run by start-up supporter Public to help them work with the public sector.
