The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) relies on the efficient running of its systems – some over 30 years old – and operates a vast estate of legacy systems. Taking back control of some of these outsourced services in 2016 it moved to Crown Hosting Services, says Andy Jones, lead infrastructure engineer, benefits and pensions digital technology services (DWP).
Since then the focus has been on optimising the estate – even bringing former Cobol programmers out of retirement to help – and using private or public cloud wherever possible. A focus on moving to a hyperconverged, private cloud, infrastructure, has provided a software defined and modular approach to building out services fit for the future.
