The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has extended the contract with Shared Services Connected Ltd (SSCL) for the Department for Work and Pensions under the Synergy shared services programme.

The extension adds three years to the contract with a value of more than £300 million and will involve SSCL – a subsidiary of transformation company Sopra Steria – providing services across finance and accounting, pensions administration, payroll, procurement and contact centre support, until at least 2028.

It will include the migration of each government department involved in the Synergy programme to a new Oracle Fusion platform, paving the way for the transition to a new 10-year business process services contract expected to be awarded next year.

John Neilson, CEO of Sopra Steria UK, said: “This contract extension demonstrates the trust the UK Government has in Sopra Steria, and the well proven capabilities of SSCL, to deliver insight-led, transformative services, which save time and money that can be reinvested in frontline public services.”

DWP is the lead department for Synergy, which also includes the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Health and Safety Executive, Home Office, Ministry of Justice and Office for Nuclear Regulation.
