The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has signed two six-month deals with Kainos Software to support data initiatives.
The higher value contract, at £3.3 million, is for a common risk engine to support the Integrated Risk and Intelligence Service (IRIS) deal with challenges that have emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic. It involves helping to provide better rules, increase the use of machine learning, improve predictive modelling and integrate the engine with a new case management system and identity service to assess any risk in claims.
This is aimed at supporting the department’s fraud and error prevention effort and its drive towards more self-service interactions.
The other deal, valued at £2 million, is for an uplifted analytics service to support the DWP Digital team’s management of its AWS and Azure based analytics platform. These are used by teams including IRIS, ops analytics, cyber security and digital service design teams, and the department wants to scale them up to support demand and standardised ways of working.
Kainos has made considerable ground in the central government market over the past two years, winning significant contracts with the Passport Office, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, NHS Digital and HM Land Registry.
